Dr. Natale BATTEVI

Biography

Born in  Bergamo, Italy, July  21, 1953

Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1978  at the University of Milan (110/110).

Postgraduate degree in occupational health in  1982 at the University of Milan  (70/70)

Postgraduate degree in 1990 in epidemiologically oriented medical statistics at the University of Pavia (50/50)

From 1982 to 1985 he has been occupational physician in two companies in the plastic and paint sectors, with 120 and 250 exposed subjects, respectively.

From 1981 to 1982 he has worked with a forward contract  at the territory occupational health unit of Desio (Milan)

From 1985 to 1989 he has worked as an occupational health specialist at the USSL (local health unit of the National Health Service) n. 57 of Melegnano (MI)

He has been a lecturer during the academic years 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94 and 2001-02 and from 2005 to day at the post-graduate school of occupational health of the Milan University.

From 1989 to 1997 he has worked as medical doctor at USSL n. 57 of Melegnano in the Operating Unit  “Health Protection at the workplace”of the National Health Service. From 1994 he has been a Judicial   Police Officer with the task of coordinating – from 1995 –  approx 60 occupational physicians  employed in the territory enterprises.

From July 1997  he  has been employed at USSL 41 of Milan, later named  ICP and now  IRCCS Polyclinic Hospital, Mangiagalli and Regina Elena  Foundation. He works at present at the  Operative Unit of the  Centre of Occupational Medicine and Community  (CEMOC) of the National Health Service, being  part of the Department of Preventive and Occupational Medicine at the Clinica del Lavoro of Milan (Via San Barnaba, 8).

From September 1997 to December 1998 he has been an occupational physician at the Milan Municipality – school-meal and cooking sector

From January 1999 to April 2001 he has been the occupational physician for the Municipal Police sector (in all 800 workers)

From April 2002 he has been the occupational physician for Assicurazioni Generali (in all approx 1400 exposed subjects)

From 2001 he has been the occupational physician at the Polytechnic of Milan

From 2001 he is a lecturer at the post-graduate school of Physiatry at the Milan University

Since 1997 he is an active member of the research Unit “Ergonomics of Posture and Movement”(EPM) and has carried out several studies mainly addressed to risk assessment from spine biomechanical overload in health care workers, to risk and damage assessment in subjects exposed to upper limb biomechanical overload.

At the same time he is appointed as a member (by public party) within the Ergonomics Committee of UNI: as such he represents Italy in CEN European Committees of Ergonomics (biomechanics subgroup) In this regard he is appointed in 2009 as the coordinator for a standard project  on ISO TR 12296 (Ergonomics — Manual handling of people in the healthcare sector) puplished in 2012.

From 2005 I work in Foundation IRCS Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano – Italy in Ergonomic Section as Occupational Physicians (web site: www.policlinico.mi.it/ergonomia).

Since 1997 I have carried out various researches as a scientific manager in the field of ergonomics both in industrial and healthcare. All the research aimed at reducing the risk of biomechanical overload. We have been working with the Politecnico di Milano-Dipartimento di Meccanica - a virtual prototyping laboratory with whom we have been researching at manufacturing companies for ergonomic design or redesign.
